01_AMA9389The Finnish company Mineral Exploration Network won MineTech – the 1st Russian Competition of Mining Challenges and Solutions. The company proposed a solution for the challenge offered by Polymetal International. The contest was organised alongside MINEX Russia 2017 Forum in Moscow on 12 October 2017.

The innovative methodology of geochemical analysis, proposed by the Mineral Exploration Network (MEFFA), made the best impression on the jury. Igor Vasilyev, the company’s operating director, introduced the MEFFA’s method – multi-element analysis of the fine fraction.
According to the MEFFA method samples of a fine fraction weighing 3-5 grams, which can be prepared in the field, are used for analysis. The analysis is performed on the laser ablation devices NWR-226 and ICP-MS Agilent 7700. The contents are recalculated according to the internal standard every 12 samples.

The advantage of the method is high productivity: a pair of workers collect an average of 300 samples per day, two laboratory technicians prepare 200 samples per shift and analyse up to 400 samples per shift. The method showed high comparability and convergence due to the use of highly sensitive instruments and direct analysis of substance.
During the Award Ceremony, the moderator of the contest – head of the long-term planning department of the investment directorate of Polymetal UK Oleg Valeyev – proposed to use the MEFFA method at the sites in Armenia: “Get a small prize, as well as a contract for work in Armenia.”
“We, of course, are pleased that a major gold mining company recognised our innovative technology. We are certain that it will show the same high results on Polymetal projects in Armenia as on our own,” Igor Vasilyev assured.
The following companies also participated in the contest:

• ANACON (modular express laboratory for preparation and analysis of samples for gold and silver on self-propelled and / or trailed chassis)
• Helios (technology of electromagnetic sounding and induced polarization)
• VIST Group (integration between information systems of different levels)
• Mine Tech Services (the potential of data and technology)
• Carl Zeiss Microscopy (analysis of large data sets)
