The 13th Mining Industry Forum MINEX Russia 2017 was held on 10-12 October 2017 in Moscow. More than 500 top managers and specialists from Russian and international companies and organisations took part in the forum.
On the first day, 10th October, ArtGeo (Russia), ContiTech (Germany), SRK Consulting (Russia / UK) and AMC Consultants (Australia) conducted four master classes: on laser scanning technology; intelligent solutions for the conveyor equipment for mining industry; effectiveness of creating a detailed geological model; and management of field planning.
A Round Table of the Federal Agency for Subsoil Use of the Russian Federation (ROSNEDRA) was held prior to the Forum on 11th October, offering a platform for direct dialogue between the heads of the Agency, the State Reserves Committee of the Russian Federation and the CEOs of mining companies. The most important topics of discussion were: financing of liquidation of subsoil use consequences, liberalisation of waste utilisation, simplified subsoil use procedure and expertise in geological subsoil studies.
At the opening of the Forum, the participants were greeted by Evgeniy Kiselev, Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Ecology of the Russian Federation, Head of the Federal Agency for Subsoil Use, and Timur Toktabayev, Vice Minister of the Ministry for Investments and Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Over a hundred speakers and panellists presented at the 13 sessions of the Forum. 59 Russian and international companies exhibited at the Trade and Investment Exhibition organised alongside the Forum. Over 900 attendees from 30 different countries participated in the Forum and visited the Exhibition.
On the second day of the Forum, 12th October, a competition of technical solutions “MineTech” took place. This contest was held at the MINEX Russia Forum for the first time; its debut took place earlier this year at the MINEX Central Asia Forum in Kazakhstan. Polymetal offered a number of technical challenges for the competition. The turnkey solutions were offered by Russian and international service companies and geological companies. The Mineral Exploration Network (Finland) won the competition, together with St. Petersburg State University the company developed method of geochemical prospecting for gold and other precious metals. The winner was invited by Polymetal to apply its technology for exploration in Armenia.
Many discussions held during the Forum highlighted the upbeat trends in Russia’s mining sector. Positive changes are evolving in subsoil use regulation and investment climate. Gold mining sector is going through unprecedented consolidation and growth. Many talks focused on the need for intensifying geological exploration and improving project economics.
An interactive networking platform used during the Forum offered the participants opportunity to communicate in real time and to arrange personal meetings.
Blitz polls, conducted at each session, reflected the views of the audience on various aspects of today’s Russian mining industry and highlighted the expectations.
The Forum was concluded with the Awards Ceremony of three competitions: the 11th Russian Mining Excellence Award, the 6th annual “Miners and Mines of Russia” photo competition and the “MineTech” technological challenges contest.
