Trends in the application of induction electroprospecting exploration methods in mining.

Electroprospecting is the main geophysical method for mining exploration (except for chromites). Electroprospecting methods are clearly divided into two large groups: geometric and induction. The last group consists two significant sections. First: with a controlled (artificial) source of an alternating electromagnetic field (EM). The second uses the natural EM field of the earth (AMT, MT). The main trend in the application of electroprospecting over the past 20 years is a significant increase (several times) the application of induction methods with a natural EM field source at all stages of the prospecting and exploration process. At the stage of forecasting new metallogenic provinces and identifying large deep faults, the geoelectric section is studied to the depth of 100-150 km. Investigated depth till 0 – 3 km are used in the stage of prospecting in the prospective areas and on the flanks of the field being developed. Some profiles with detail spacing between the sites (20 – 100 m) are used in the same depth interval. Only 5-component measurements are used at all stages of prospecting and exploration. This approach permits to reduce the density of observation sites to 4 – 16 times in compare to all other EM techniques. Thus, this group of methods allows to perform works not only geologically efficient, but also economically. Examples are given of the use of AMT, MT application for prospecting and exploration of gold deposits and polymetalls.
