Implementation of the best international standards for community development and impact mitigation at the Nordgold’s African mines

Nordgold operates nine gold mines and has several prospective projects in 6 countries over 4 continents: Burkina Faso, Guinea, Russia, Kazakhstan, French Guiana and Canada. As a mining company, the Nordgold’s activities might have a certain impact on local communities; and we use the best applicable international standards to mitigate these impacts and to provide benefits to the local communities. For example, in Burkina Faso and Guinea we are using the World Bank Operational Policies (WB OP) and IFC Performance Standards on environmental and social sustainability as a reference when we develop and implement our Resettlement Action Plans. Our community development programs are designed based on consultations with the local people, and are aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, with the focus on such SDG priority themes as ‘Quality education’, ‘Clean water and sanitation’, ‘Good health’, and ‘Sustainable cities and communities.’
